Coinciding with 鈥淲orld Inclusion Day鈥 on Monday, Oct. 10, the University of Central Missouri is hosting its own festivities thanks to a Student Government Association (SGA) referendum that was approved this semester by University President Roger Best. The first 鈥淯CM Inclusivity Day,鈥 sponsored by the SGA, is planned for noon to 3 p.m. Monday at the quadrangle.

The basis of 鈥淚nclusivity Day鈥 is an opportunity for students to celebrate the diverse and inclusive environment on UCM鈥檚 campus. It is a day dedicated to ensuring that individuals of various abilities, backgrounds, ages, races, religions, genders and other characteristics are accepted and welcomed, Best noted in a University Update he shared with faculty and staff this week.

Best will speak at the event at 12:30 p.m.  Throughout the afternoon, students will have the opportunity to engage with various organizations that champion inclusivity at UCM, build new connections with different people, and show off their own diverse characteristics. The event includes dance performances by groups representing the Association of Black Collegians and Zeta Phi Beta at 1 p.m., followed by a 鈥淭hink Box鈥 conversation at 2 p.m. to address topics related to diversity and inclusion.  This is an opportunity for organizations to brainstorm ideas for possible events together while also collectively considering ways to make the campus more inclusive. The wrap-up that follows at 2:45 p.m. is an opportunity for organizations to promote their upcoming events.

While the event is geared toward students, all members of the campus community are welcome e to attend.
